Complete Protection Package for Fargo-based Shelby GT350

A client from here in Fargo recently returned to Audio Garage to discuss a protection package for his brand-new 2019 Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang. The client was in the process of purchasing the vehicle and wanted us to install an Escort radar detector that was similar to what we had used on his Jeep Cherokee. After discussing how he intends to use the car, we proposed a fully integrated Escort MAX CI 360 protection solution. The client brought the car directly to us from the dealership. It had less than 30 miles on the odometer!

Shelby GT350 Speed Trap Protection

The front bumper cover was removed for the custom radar and laser system.

The Escort display and controller were mounted at the bottom of the console.

The laser shifters were mounted on each side of the license plate.

Rear laser shifters were added next to the license plate.

The Escort MAX CI 360 is a full-featured, custom-installed radar detector and laser defense solution. The system includes front and rear laser transceivers that work to prevent officers using lidar guns from measuring the vehicle’s speed. In addition, dedicated front and rear high-sensitivity radar receivers provide long-distance warnings about X, K and Ka-band radar.

Our team mounted the radar antennae and laser transceivers on the front and rear of the vehicle and concealed and protected all the wiring as it runs to the control module in the dash. The radar antennae are mounted behind the plastic bumper covers. Radar signals can pass through plastic with almost no attenuation.

Since the client wanted to keep the rare and costly GT350 as unmodified as possible, we mounted the radar system control panel and display at the bottom of the center control stack. This location makes it easy to see and provides quick access to the mute button to cancel the laser defense functionality.

Premium Window Tint and Paint Protection Film

PPF protects the fenders from rock chips.

The lower portion of the bumper has a coating of PPF.

The front of the Mustang was protected by our paint protection film installation.

While talking to the client about the radar system, we suggested that adding paint protection film to the front bumper, mirror covers and leading edge of the hood would be a great way to prevent rock chips. Given that the car was brand-new, this was the perfect time to apply this completely transparent and amazingly durable urethane film.

As Nick was working on the car, he noticed several other areas that appeared susceptible to damage. We talked to the client about adding film in front of and behind each wheel, in the door handle cups and along the trunk ledge and up the A pillars.

Knowing that the client was working to keep the vehicle looking new, Caleb suggested adding SunTek Carbon tint to protect the owner from prolonged UV exposure and to help keep the interior of the vehicle cool. The client loved the idea because he planned to spend a lot of time in the car and drives 650 miles to Chicago quite often.

Qi Wireless Smartphone Charging

A Qi charger was added in one of the air vents.

Our work on the Shelby was done with respect for the client’s desires to not make any permanent modifications.

The client loves the Qi wireless smartphone charger we installed in his Jeep and asked that we add one to the Shelby. Once again, he didn’t want to make any permanent modifications to the vehicle, so we used a Scosche MagicMount Qi wireless charging base that attaches to one of the air vents.

These chargers feature a magnetic mounting solution that holds the phone securely to the bracket while the inductive charging tops up the battery.

WeatherTech Floor and Cargo Mats

To round out this ultimate vehicle protection package, we suggested that adding a set of WeatherTech Digital Fit FloorLiners to the front and rear footwells would ensure that the carpet stays clean, even if the client gets caught out in the rain. We also added a Cargo Mat to the trunk to ensure that detailing supplies or liquids stored in the trunk won’t damage the vehicle if they tip over or leak.

With the Shelby protected from speed traps, stone chips, mud and dirt and the owner protected against UV exposure, we had this amazing Ford Performance Blue Shelby Mustang looking great. We reviewed how to use the Escort radar detector system with the client to ensure that he understood how to execute the Jam-to-Kill process perfectly. The client was once again thrilled with the work we performed for him.
